Anthony A. Miele, 92 of Naples died Saturday, May 13, 2017. Formerly from Niles, Ohio, he graduated from Niles High School in 1942 and played in the Warren Junior Military Band from 1939 -1942. He graduated from The Ohio State University in 1945 where he received the OSU Lamme Scholarship for Mechanical Engineering 1944-45. He was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity and was a Tau Beta Phi Engineering Honoree in 1944. He served his country in the US Navy.
He worked as a Mechanical Engineer before founding Miele Engineering in Warren, OH and later established Western Matic Corporation. He was a member of the B.P.O.E. of Warren, OH and a 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus. He obtained his private Pilot's license in 1994 at the age of 70. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Ruth Miele, a son Philip Miele of Columbus, OH, a daughter, Marianne Miele (Ben Vanhorn) of Naples, a daughter-in-law Brenda Miele of Mineral Ridge, OH, grandchildren Erin and Nick Miele of Mineral Ridge, OH, Philip and Maria Miele of Columbus, OH, step-children, Mark (Lisa) Tochtenhagen of Nashville, Lisa (Mark) Olsen of Fairfax, VA and step-grandchildren, Raeleigh and Mason Tochtenhagen of Nashville, TN. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Filomena "Fannie" Iannizzaro Miele and a son, Anthony F. Miele. A funeral mass will be celebrated Thursday, May 18th at 2:00pm at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Niles, OH at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Avow Hospice, 1095 Whippoorwill Lane, Naples, FL 34105.
