John F. Fox

A final Anchors Aweigh!  Capt. John F. Fox US Navy, decorated Vietnam Veteran, dies at 84.  A resident of Naples FL and Cameron MT, John passed away peacefully at Avow Hospice in Naples FL on Sunday October 15, 2017 from complications due to multiple strokes.  John was born in the Bronx, the eldest son of the late John F. and Mary A. Fox.  John was proud to have graduated from State University of New York Maritime College - Fort Schuyler, class of 1956, and in 2007 was inducted into Heritage Hall, the Maritime College Hall of Fame.  He bravely served his country as a Naval Officer receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Bronze Star, Combat Action Ribbon and the Meritorious Unit Commendation.  He was fond of the memories hosting President and Mrs. Reagan at the Yorktown Bicentennial in 1981 while he was the Commanding Officer of the Naval Weapons Station.  John earned an MS from George Washington University, was a Federal Executive Fellow at the Brookings Institution and graduated from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces.  After retiring, John founded the Endmark Corporation, enjoying a second career as an entrepreneur. He was an avid golfer, accomplished fox hunter and had a passion for fly fishing.  John had a love of Ireland, taking great pride in his Irish heritage.

Left to cherish his memories are his daughters, Kathleen A. Fox, Maura T. Fox and Patricia F. Madara (Edward S.); grandchildren, Megan T. Stangohr and Edward S. Madara IV; brothers Ronald J. and Brian P.; and his loving wife Elizabeth W. of 13 years.

A special thanks to the many nurses and medical staff who cared for him and helped make his final days peaceful.

Memorial and interment will be private.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in the name of Capt. John Fox to Avow Hospice, 1095 Whippoorwill Lane, Naples FL 34105.
