Lucius B. Lackore

Lucius Barnard Lackore passed away peacefully on December 28, 2017 at the Chateau in Moorings Park, Naples, FL. Lucius, better known as “Lu,” was born December 11, 1926 in Minneapolis, MN, the eldest son of the late Lucius Harrington and Margaret Barnard Lackore. After an honorable discharge from the United States Navy, Lu graduated from the University of Minnesota with a double major in Business Administration and Civil Engineering. He was President of the local YMCA, a Scout Master, a member and chairman of the Boy Scout Troop Committee.  He was President of Phi Delta Theta, Captain of the UMN swim team, a member of National Honor Society and an Eagle Scout.

He married Nancy Kern March 18, 1949 in Minneapolis MN.  She died in October 1984.  Lu married Linda Berry in Cincinnati, OH in June 1985. She died June 23, 2008. He was employed as a Plant Manager of wood and metal store fixtures during his more than 30-year career. Lu was a long-time member of Collier County Audubon Society and its successor organization, Audubon of the Western Everglades.

He enjoyed extensive travel after retirement and played golf into his eighth decade of life.  Lu had many friends and associates, enjoyed playing bridge, attending lectures and events in Naples, where he resided the longest period of his life. Lu is survived by brother Jim of Cincinnati OH, his four children, Son Daniel (Debbo) of Columbia, SC, daughter Susan Blanck of Rochester, daughter Candace Bowers of Bright, IN and son Christopher (Roxanne) of Loveland OH.  

He had seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren, and various nieces and nephews. The service will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2018, 11:00AM at the Bower Chapel of Moorings Park, Naples, Fl.  An internment will follow in Ohio later in the year.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Audubon of the Western Everglades, PO Box 1738, Naples, Florida 34106. If anyone chooses to make such a donation they should indicate “in honor of Lu Lackore.”
