Mildred "Mickie" Lawrence Tappan

November 10, 1924 ~ January 18, 2018 (age 93) 93 Years Old

Mildred “Mickie” Lawrence Tappan, 93, passed away peacefully at The Glenview, Naples, FL on Thursday, January 18.
She was born in Mansfield, Ohio and raised in nearby Lexington, the youngest of 5 children of Wilbur and Dora (Mengert) Lawrence.
Mickie’s mother, Dora, taught in a one-room school house in Fredericktown, OH and married Wilbur Lawrence in 1910. Wilbur was a general contractor. Mickie’s family moved to Lexington the year she was born. They “lived right next door to the school, but some how the Lawrence children managed to be late anyway.”
Mickie graduated from Lexington High School and attended college during World War II. She studied Education at The Ohio State University and later switched to a Business major. During summers and after college she worked in Mansfield in the office at Humphrey’s Manufacturing, maker of bathtubs and plumbing supplies.
In 1946 she married Stanley Brody, and they relocated to the San Francisco area for his residency, after which they settled in Cardington, Ohio, and later in Mansfield where they raised 3 children.
She married W. Richard Tappan in 1975, president and CEO of the Tappan Stove Company. Mickie and Dick enjoyed extensive world travels together. They often summered on a small island in North Georgian Bay, Canada. In the late 1970s, they started wintering in Naples and “stayed for good” year-round in 2004 when they moved to The Glenview.
She was a long-time member of the First Congregation Church of Mansfield, and the Naples United Church of Christ.
Survived by daughters Janet Brody, Judy Brody, daughter-in-law Cheryl Welch, stepson Thomas R. Tappan (Tracy) and stepdaughter Margaret Tappan Enders (William); grandchildren Perry Brody, Molly Brody, Jayson Tappan (Kristie), Douglas Enders (Katie); and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son Donald Brody; husband W. R. Tappan, brothers Herbert Lawrence, and Robert Lawrence; sisters Laura Ruth Fenton, and Marjorie Anne Bates, cousins Katherine Frazier and Elizabeth Prestel.
Memorial service will be Friday, January 26, 2 pm at The Glenview, Pelican Bay, Naples, 34108.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests you remember Mickie and donate to your favorite charity.
