Sharon S. Clausen , 87, went home to be with her Load and Savior. Jesus Christ, on January 16, 2018 in Naples, FL. Sharon was born to Margaret and Worth Smilie in Ponca City OK on May 27, 1930. In She was an honors student at Classen High School in Oklahoma City and Mills College in Oakland CA. Sharon met her husband, George, while at Mills College. Shortly after they became engaged in 1950, George was sent to Japan to serve in the military. George asked her to come to Japan to be married. What an adventure that was! They married October 27, 1951 and returned to California 1 1/2 years later after a "never to be forgotten experience". Living in Los Angeles, Son George III was born in 1953 and daughter Margi in 1955. In 1957, the Clausen's moved with their 2 children to a small rural town in Central Mexico for George to develop an agricultural business. Sharon quickly adapted to learning Spanish and another sudden major change in lifestyle. Another new "never to be forgotten experiences again". In 1959, the family returned to San Jose, California. While husband, George, started another business, Sharon got involved in all kinds of activities. Church and her faith in God since childhood was always a key in her life. She joined PEO, taught Sunday School and was always counted on to lead or help others and "get things organized". They bought a cabin in the Mountains a short drive from home. Sharon was always gathering friends for weekends either hiking, skiing, bike riding, golf or just having a good time. She was active in the start of the Gilroy Garlic Festival, Gilroy California, hosting guests and preparing a variety of garlic flavored delicacies. Always with a smile and a willingness to lead or help anyone, raising our children, being involved in community activities, PEO, church, travel, bridge filled most of her time. Another "never to be forgotten experience" was when she was a golf scorer for the original Bing Crosby Pebble Beach Golf Tournament which, on her first day scoring, included a foursome with Jack Nicklaus and Bruce Lietzke. The next big change was a move to Baltimore, MD in 1989 when George was transferred to McCormick & Co in Baltimore MD followed by retirement in Naples, FL in 1992 to Quail Creek Country Club. In 2003, Sharon and George moved to Bentley Village Retirement Community - Vi. They were fortunate to be at Bentley Village when Sharon developed Parkinson's 3 years later. She has been in a wheelchair since 2010. In spite of this, she has become even more focused in her faith in God and church activities. Sharon and George decided not to let this change their life and continued to be very active attending Bentley Village events, theater, cruising, and air travel to visit family. Sharon truly has had many wonderful friends who helped make her life a "never to be forgotten experience". Her legacy will long be remembered by those whose lives she touched. Surviving Sharon are her husband, George E. Clausen Jr., son George E. Clausen III of Charlotte NC, daughter Margaret von Berckefeldt of Brentwood TN. and Grandchildren, Steven von Berckefeldt, Kari Moore and George E. Clausen IV as well as Great Grandchildren Evan, Grace, Andrew, Elizabeth and Vivian Moore of Franklin, TN. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Matthews House and Grace Place of Naples or the 1st Presbyterian Church Bonita Springs, Fl.
