Shirley Ann Ingersoll

Shirley Ingersoll, who has been a resident of East Naples since 1993, passed away at The Arlington on February 15, 2018, after a lengthy illness.

Shirley was born December 27, 1935 in Duff, Indiana, the first of two children of June Lichlyter Bailey and Henry Ermert. She grew up on a farm in Velpin, Indiana, and graduated from Central High School in Evansville, Indiana. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing and a Master’s Degree in Education from Evansville University. She taught grade school and middle school in Mt.
Carmel, Illinois and Indianapolis, Indiana, until she relocated to Michigan, where she was Director of Detroit Business Institute and Dorsey Business School in Detroit. She left her teaching career to work for Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, Michigan. She held various positions, including Labor Representative, Benefits Representative, Human Relations Representative, and other training and H.R. positions for divisions in Dearborn until she retired in 1993 from the Design Studio, and moved to Naples with her husband, Bill.

In the past, Shirley served on the Board of Directors of Lorenzo Walker Technical School, and was past secretary of the East Naples Civic Association. She was active in the League of Women Voters, and a member of the Phi Mu Sorority.

Shirley was a member of Mayflower Congregational United Church of Christ, where in the past she conducted team building actiivities for several Councils, and later served as a Council member. She assisted in the LOGOS childrens program, and was a devoted worker and assistant manager of the Mayflower thrift store.

Shirley is survived by her son, Ronald Carlyle (Nora); daughter, Michelle Caldwell; grandchildren, Carmen Caldwell Litzler, Richard Carlyle, Robert Carlyle; great grandchild, Calvin Litzler, aunt, Ardella Jones, and friend, Shirley Smith.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Ingersoll, her mother, June Bailey, stepfather, Virgil Bailey, and her brother, Ron Ermert.

Services will be held on Monday, February 19th, 11:00AM at Mayflower Congregational United Church of Christ, 2900 County Barn Road, Naples, FL 34112
