Tribute

Alfred John "Al" Marcinkowski (or known simply as "Pa" to his grandchildren) passed away on November 17, 2021 at the age of 93 in Naples, FL. His grandchildren would say that Pa wasn't just a G, he was the The OG: Original Grandpa. Al was born in Jersey City on July 21, 1928. At a young age, Al met the love of his life, Flo, whom he would eventually marry and go on to spend more than 60 years of the rest of his life with. Al and Flo had two children: Gary and JoAnn; four grandchildren, Chris, Paul, Emilie and Lucas, and Al recently got to meet his first great-grandchild, KJ.

While in NYC, Al worked as a NYPD officer until his retirement, a profession which provided him with endless entertaining stories of NYC lunacy that would provide entertainment for everyone listening. After retirement, Flo and Al moved to Naples, FL to be closer to their daughter JoAnn's family and their first grandchildren. Al and Flo became deeply involved in their growing family's life and would become intimately involved in their first grandchildren's lives in everything from academics to athletics to personal aspects. Al began to hone his hobby of golf, while continuing to practice his daily pastime of smoking cigars, drinking scotch and listening to Frank Sinatra.

Al had a truly unique personality and sense of humor and made friends everywhere he went. He became a favorite person at friendly gatherings and familial events like weddings and anniversaries where everyone would enthusiastically shout his personal drinking salutation: polkolacji!

Al and Flo ultimately celebrated 68 years of marriage before Flo's unfortunate passing in 2019 which came as a great difficulty to Al and his family. Al always looked forward to the time when he could be reunited with the love of his life.

Al struggled with some health difficulties in his last few months, but was able to hold on long enough to spend his final moments surrounded by family that came from all around the country to visit him, and reminiscing with his favorite nephews, Glenn and Anthony, and other relatives on the phone. Al always wanted to be remembered by the song "Put Your Dreams Away" by Frank Sinatra and many of his mannerisms like his aforementioned toast, his snide telling people to "go scratch" and his classy tastes will live on through his family and friends.

Al's funeral mass will take place on January 7, 2022 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Naples at 10:30 a.m. Immediately following the mass his family and those participating in the ceremony will travel up to the Sarasota National Cemetery, where Flo has also been laid to rest, for the Military Honor Guard Ceremony.
