Tribute

Alvin "Al" Olsen Butler, 84, of Naples, Florida and St. Louis, Missouri, passed away surrounded by family on April 23, 2022.  Known for his optimism, signature smile, generosity and keen business sense, Al truly enjoyed an amazing life.  To Al, the most important things in life were family, friends and his employees.  He is survived by his loving wife, Charlotte Drury Butler, son Brian Butler (Kelly), daughter Marci Zweifel (Jamie) and five grandchildren.

Al Butler was born in Leechburg, Pennsylvania, on January 30, 1938.  His mother died when he was very young, leaving his steel-worker father to raise Al, two brothers and one sister all on his own.

Al was drafted into the Army at age 24, where he served for two years.  Following his discharge, he sought employment in sales.  In October 1962, Calgon hired him as a sales correspondent but he quickly moved up through the ranks. When Calgon was to be sold in 1991, Al purchased the wholesaler part of the business, naming it Nu-Calgon Wholesaler, Inc. Al started Nu-Calgon with 22 employees and grew the company to be a leader of chemical products in the HVAC/R industry. Al always envisioned Nu-Calgon to be a family business. He wanted all employees to be successful and live good lives and he cared for them like family.

Al loved spending time with his family and friends, going out to dinner, playing golf and bringing joy and happiness to everyone around him.  He had the kindest and most generous heart, and he will be missed.
