Barbara Hegele

Barbara Hegele, 75, of Ave Maria, Florida died unexpectedly on November 11, 2021 with her family by her side.

Barbara was born January 5, 1946 in Easton, Pennsylvania to Joseph and Mary Shekleton.

She attended high school at Beaumont School in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Rosary College and a Master’s Degree from Northern Illinois University. She taught French, German, and Spanish to high school and middle school students in St. Charles, Illinois for 22 years. Barbara met her husband, Paul, in August 1968 and they had 53 loving, wonderful years together.

Barbara’s Catholic faith was very important to her. She always strived to follow examples from the Saints. She maintained a gentle, humble, and patient spirit which inspired people around her. She enjoyed attending daily Mass and Holy Rosary with Paul. She also enjoyed walking and riding her tricycle around the community she loved. She was a faithful member of several prayer and worship groups. She cherished time with her grandchildren.    

Barbara is survived by Paul, two children: Chris (Robyn) Hegele and Rachel (John) Lanham, five grandchildren: Seth, Coryn, Marie, Charlie, and John Paul. She is also survived by brothers: Jerry, Michael, Marty, Tim, and Patrick, and sisters: Cathy and Mary Jo.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters: Janet and Margaret.

Arrangements are with Fuller Funeral Home. A Requiem Mass will be held at Ave Maria Catholic Church in Ave Maria, Florida on Tuesday, November 16 at 10:00am. Mass will be preceded by a vigil service in the church from 9:00 to 10:00. A Holy Rosary will be prayed for Barbara at 9:20am.
