Charles R. Hughes, age 83 of Naples, FL, formerly of Fort Collins, CO, died on May 5, 2022, after a long illness. Mr. Hughes was born on July 6, 1938, in Closplint, Kentucky, to Earl and Renee Hughes. He was a 1957 graduate of Urbana Local High School in Urbana, Ohio, and after graduation he served in the U.S. Army. He worked for the US Forest Service for many years as a landman in Montana, Idaho and Colorado and then operated several successful businesses in the natural gas industry. After retiring, Mr. Hughes moved to Montana and enjoyed time on his ranch raising champion Arabian horses and then he moved to Naples in 2009.
Mr. Hughes is survived by his wife, Sherie; his daughter, Laurie (Chad) Ronholdt of Murphy, Texas; his son, Tom (Margarita) Hughes of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; grandchildren, Matt Friehauf, Nicole Friehauf, Chandler Hughes, Rachel Ronholdt and Evelyn Ronholdt; his sister, Wanda Jordan and brothers, Larry Hughes and Bill Hughes. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ed Hughes and grandson, Timothy Friehauf.
A private family memorial service will take place at a later date.
