David E. Durkin

Dave Durkin passed away on January 17, 2023 at the age of 76.  Dave lived in Ave Maria, Florida, and is survived by his wife of 52 years, Dorothea (Dot) Kondes Durkin, his son, Michael, and Mike’s wife, Korrin.  He was predeceased by his daughter, Jennifer Durkin, and his siblings, Nancy Gehring, Patricia May and Jimmy Durkin.  He was born in Teaneck, New Jersey, to Thomas and Edith Durkin.  Dave is survived by a loving family of sisters- and brothers-in law, nieces, nephews and their children and his faithful Cockapoo, Jaxson.  He brought up his children in River Vale, NJ, where Dave and his friends would line the fields for his son’s football games and play softball on Sundays.  He was always ready for a good time. 

Dave served proudly in the Marine Corps from 1964 to 1967, served in Viet Nam and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the VietNamese Service Medal with two stars and the Republic of VietNam Campaign Medal. He returned home to Teaneck. New Jersey, where he graduated from Farleigh Dickinson University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.  He and Dot, childhood sweethearts, were married in 1971 while he was a Junior in College.

Dave enjoyed retirement by playing golf, watching movies, reading and dining out with his wonderful group of friends at Del Webb.

Services, including a Marine Corps Honor Guard, will be held at Fuller Funeral Home, North Naples, 1625 Pine Ridge Road, Naples, Florida 34109, on Monday, January 23, 2023, from 2 t to 4 p.m.  Friends are invited to join Dot at her home after the services.  The family is also planning a Celebration of Life in New Jersey in the near future.
