David W. Stoy Sr.

David Wilson Stoy, Sr., 73, a resident of Naples, Florida for almost 20 years, peacefully passed on Sunday, Oct. 14, 2018 at home, under his family’s care for lung cancer. Born in Somerset Pennsylvania, Sept. 28, 1945, he was the second of three sons of the late Rufus Meyers, Sr. and Sara (Casebeer) Stoy. 

David grew up in La Grange, Illinois.  After graduating from high school, he enlisted to the Army in October, 1965. He proudly served as a Crew Chief, in the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment (the legendary Blackhorse Regiment) during the Vietnam War, from 1967-68.
 
After his time in the Army, David returned to La Grange and soon met Margaret Jeanne Hill. David and Jeanne were married on Grand Cayman Island, December 25, 1972. While David and Jeanne raised their two children, David Jr. and Catherine, he started his own commercial graphic design and printing business, which he successfully ran for almost 10 years.
 
During the frequent family trips to Grand Cayman Island, to visit his parents, the family would take road trips from Chicago to Florida, and then fly to Grand Cayman. During these trips, David and Jeanne discovered the wonders of southwest Florida and could not resist the urge to relocate.  So, in 1989, David and his family moved from La Grange, IL to Naples, FL.  While in Naples, David worked as a real estate agent, owned and operated a lawn service company, and worked as an electrician, until he retired at the age of 65.
 
David is survived by his wife, Jeanne; his two children, David and Cathy; and his two grandchildren, Andy and Angie; and his brother, Daniel (Effy).  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Mark and Rufus (Jay).

The family will receive visitors on Friday, Oct. 26, 6PM-7PM with prayers at 7PM, Fuller Funeral Home 4735 Tamiami Tr. E., Naples 34112. Final committal with military honors will be on Saturday, Oct. 27, 11AM at Palm Royale Cemetery, 6780 Vanderbilt Beach Road, Naples 34119.
