Tribute

It is with deep sorrow that on November 18th, 2022, Donald Ernest Anschutz of Naples, Florida, a long-time resident of Wilbraham, MA and Somers, CT passed peacefully at 93.

Donald was born in Springfield, MA on March 18, 1929, was a graduate of Technical High School in Springfield, MA, attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) and graduated summa cum laude with a degree in mechanical engineering from Western New England College. Donald also served our country in the Naval Reserve from 1948-1956.

Donald was predeceased by his wife of 52 years Elizabeth (Betty) Richards Anschutz and his brother, Richard Anschutz.  Donald leaves his loving children Sharon Hilton, Patti D’Amaddio, Glenn Anschutz. and his sister Sandra Anschutz along with his five grandchildren, Ryan, Meagan, Matthew, Alexandra, Nicole and five great grandchildren. For the last 15 years, Donald enjoyed the wonderful company of his loving partner, Donna Marie Starke of Naples, Florida.

Donald exemplified his life motto “if you are going to do it, do it right!”  in everything he did.  During his 42- year career with the Hamilton Standard Division of UTC, he was consistently acknowledged for his innovation and leadership. Donald contributed to more than 5 aerospace and electronic patents and retired as Director of Electronics and Mechanical Design Engineering.   Don always approached sports, whether it was hockey, snow skiing, water skiing and of course golf, as if each was his chosen profession. He most was proud of his ability to consistently “play his age” on the golf course and his 5 holes in one!  He was a member of Ludlow Country Club, Elmcrest Country Club and Countryside Golf Community.

Last but not least, Donald was a terrific Father, Husband, Partner and Mentor.  As his children, we are grateful for his love, intelligence, humility and discipline. He will be deeply missed.

At Donald’s request, there will be no funeral or memorial services.  For those who wish to honor his life, donations may be made to Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island, 181 Park Avenue, Suite 12, West Springfield, MA  01089.
