Tribute

Donald Ray Haas, 87, of Naples, FL died peacefully at Vitas Hospice on February 9, 2021 after a two year battle with Alzheimers. He was born to William Lawrence Haas and Laura Louise (Blake) on April 16, 1933 in Ironton, OH. He attended Ironton High School.

He began working at 8 years old, setting pins at a bowling alley to help support his family of seven brothers and one sister. As he grew older he worked hard and developed his skills in home maintenance, remodeling and construction.

March 4, 1951 he married his high school sweetheart, Mary Edna Johnson and became an electrician for the Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad. In 1959, they moved their family to Lafayette, Indiana where he founded Quaker Maid Kitchens & Haas Remodeling Center, later to become Haas Construction. In 1995, they moved to Naples, FL, where he was a knowledgeable, helpful employee at Sunshine Ace Hardware into his 80’s. Throughout his life he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He and Mary loved traveling on their Honda Goldwing and camping around the US.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Richard, Paul, Leo, William and Barbara Haas. Survivors include his wife Mary of Bonita Springs, FL, and his four children: Donetta (James) Kuhle of Virginia Beach, VA, Suzanne (Peter) Stevens of Vero Beach, FL, Paul (Joyce) Haas of Battleground, IN and Patricia (Homer) Branch of Naples, FL. Also surviving are brothers Joseph (Marty) Haas of New Albany, OH, James (Darla) Haas of Fort Myers, FL and David (Lois) Haas of Coshocton, OH.

Don was devoted to his family, hardworking, determined, creative, inventive, mischievous, loving and loved, a perfectionist in everything he did. Don has 12 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren to carry on his legacy.

Family and friends will be invited to celebrate Don’s life, hopefully in the near future, when it is safe to do so.Those who wish to remember Don in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the Alzheimer's Association.
