Donald Frederick Kane, age 80, died on June 6 in Naples, FL with his loving wife of 30 years, Marion (Mimi), by his side. Born in Willow Grove, PA and raised in Abington, PA, Don graduated from Lehigh University with a Business degree (Marketing), was a proud member of Chi Phi fraternity and played baseball during his entire college years. He continued his baseball career after graduating from Lehigh, playing in the minor leagues for the Philadelphia Phillies. Don proudly served within the US Army retiring as a 1st Lieutenant, and throughout his life fundraised to support our troops and veterans alike. Don had a 60+ year long and successful sales career within the cosmetic packaging industry, working for Union Camp, Shorewood Packaging, International Paper, Curtis Packaging and J&PB Myers. Don was an avid golfer, previously holding memberships at Montclair Golf Club (NJ) and Long Cove Golf Club (SC), as well as enjoying a round at any course just to spend time with friends. He won countless golf championships earning him the nickname “Kane-O Drain-O” for his ability to always sync a putt. But Don was most gratified by his loving family and friends. People were drawn to Don, his charm, zest for life and great storytelling ability. His circle of friends spanned years, from all areas: childhood, baseball, military, college/fraternity. industry, and golf, he never knew a stranger. Don embraced life and will be sorely missed by his wife Mimi, his children Derek (Mindy), Heather (Robert), Abby (Gary), Stephanie, Erica (Jim), Christi (Mike), and Chris (Laura), 10 grandchildren, and his beloved dog Reilley. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Margaret Kane.
Don’s life will be celebrated at a future gathering on Hilton Head Island in October 2021. Donations can be made to Folds of Honor or the Lustgarten Foundation, two charities near and dear to Don’s heart.
