Donald (Don) Vincent Murray (age 83) of Naples, Florida passed away on April 8, 2018 due to complications of vascular dementia/Alzheimer's disease. The youngest of three sons, he was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Eleanor Murray (Bronx, New York) and his brothers, Richard and Robert.
In his youth, growing up in the Norwood (Bainbridge) neighborhood of the Bronx, New York, Don was known as a fun-loving, humorous, troublemaker who often snuck off to indulge in his favorite activity-fishing. After graduating from Mount Saint Michael Academy, he served in the Navy on a submarine off of the Florida coast in the 1950s and, once he returned home, graduated from CUNY-City College with a degree in business.
In 1961, he married the love of his life, Dorrit (Dee), and soon moved to Kinnelon, New Jersey while holding his first position as a salesman at 3M, a company for which he would work for 28 years. In 1975, he and his family relocated to Edina, Minnesota to be near 3M's headquarters in St. Paul and Don was eventually promoted to Executive Director of Health Care Services, a position he held until his retirement.
In his free time, Don loved being in the outdoors. An avid fisherman, he went on regular expeditions to Northern Minnesota and Canada with his friends and son, Steven. He also enjoyed hunting and became an excellent golfer during his retirement years while living in Naples. He was known for his infectious and boisterous laugh.
In addition to Dee, his wife of 57 years, Don is survived by his son, Steven Murray of St. Paul, Minnesota, daughter Susan Murray and grandsons, Munro and Quinn Murray of New York, New York.
There will be no public service. Over the summer, Don's ashes will be scattered on one of his favorite Minnesota lakes. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Support Network, 660 Tamiami Trail North, Suite 21, Naples, Florida 34102. http://www.alzsupport.org/Donate.html.
