Donald Watson Schneider, 95, a World War II veteran, passed away peacefully on November 21, 2018 at Harbor Chase Memory Care in Naples, Florida.
Donald was born July 31,1923 in Stamford, Connecticut to parents John S. & Mabel L. (Watson) Schneider of Cady Street, Stamford who have preceded him in death along with his sister Jean LeCroix.
Donald was a World War II veteran and proudly served as a Sergeant in the 9th Air Force from 1942-1945. He was a waist Gunner on a B-24 Liberator and flew 19 missions over France, England, and Romania. Missions included supplies to ground troops, scouting, and destroying German oil fields. He served his country with honor.
After the war he returned to the States and traveled west for a time and worked. He returned to Stamford, CT and worked at Machlett Laboratories for 35 years where he built and tested high-powered x-ray tubes for Ratheon, Inc. He resided in his home in Rowayton, CT until he retired and moved to Naples, Florida in 1982. For 36 years he loved living in Naples and enjoyed playing tennis for many years along with golf and bowling. He loved and appreciated classic Jazz music and was well known for his talents on the dance floor. He had many friends, traveled a lot and thoroughly enjoyed life.
We will always remember a smile on his face, a good joke, and a compassionate heart. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Donald is survived by his daughter, Donna L. Narvaez and husband Julio Narvaez; Grand Children, Nicholas McPherson and Lindsey McPherson; Step Daughters, Debbie Pritchard (Philip, Anthony and Alison) and Elizabeth Jackson (Tara, Damon, Chris, Taylor and Brandon), and Patricia Babbage, all of Jacksonville, NC; niece, Jeanne Gillian and nephew, John Gillian of Connecticut. Inurnment with military honors will be in Arlington National Cemetery.
