Elizabeth S. Penzo

Elizabeth (Betsy) Scudder Penzo, age 77, adoring wife to husband Bruno Penzo for over 30 years, sadly passed away on September 19, 2022.  Betsy is survived by her two sons, Jamie (Vicki) Maroney and Damian (Heather) Maroney, and her 3 grandsons Lucas, Andrew, and Hunter.  She is also survived by her sister Francy Henderson, and nieces and nephews Todd Long, Andrew Allen, Stephanie and Darcy and many extended family and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Pat Scudder and her sister Darcy Long. 

Betsy was born in Chicago on January 24, 1945 and shortly after moved to Nevada, Iowa where she was raised.  After high school, she received her Bachelor’s from Drake University and her masters from University of South Florida.  She was in the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and remained in contact with her sorority sisters over the years.

She began her successful teaching career in Chicago which led her to an opportunity to teach in Australia, from there she moved to Naples, Florida where she taught for many years until retiring.  She was an active member of the Naples Community. She loved seeing shows at the Philharmonic and got to see Andrea Bocelli.  Betsy loved to take sculpture and watercolor classes, be a part of book clubs, neighborhood card games, going to the theater and many more activities.  Her happiest times were spent traveling and cruising with Bruno and friends and family vacations with her boys and grandsons.  She loved sitting at soccer and baseball games with her sons and grandchildren.

Betsy was an amazing wife, mother, and “Grammie”.  We were all blessed to have her in our lives.  She will be deeply missed by all those who loved her.
