Ellie Martha Nicas-Sphaellos Loumos, 95, passed away September 7, 2018.
Formerly of Newtonville, MA and Islamorada, FL where she resided with her husband of forty-two years, Lycurgus A. Loumos until his death in 1986. She was also a summer resident for many years in East Falmouth, MA. Most recently, she was a permanent Florida resident in Naples, FL.
Born in New York, NY, she was the daughter of Dr. Milton and Merope Nicas and step-daughter of Pythagoras Sphaellos. She attended Adelphi College where she was initiated in the Pan Hellenic Society of Kappa Alpha Theta. She was a graduate of Barnard College, class of 1945. Ellie had been involved in church, civic and cultural activities both in Massachusetts and in Florida. She was a member of the Hellenic Women's Club of Boston for many years, St. Demetrios Church of Newton, MA, St. Katherine's Church in Naples, FL, St. Michael the Archangel Church in Cotuit, MA, the Naples Philharmonic League and the Naples Museum of Art. Primarily a loving mother, grandmother and dedicated homemaker.
Ellie leaves behind her sons, Gregory Lee Loumos of Lafayette, LA, Stephan Philip Loumos of Milford, MA, Michael Lycurgus Loumos (deceased); her daughter-in-law, Sheila Smith-Loumos of Mashpee, MA; and her two grandsons, Ian Alexander Loumos of New York, NY and Michael Raymond Loumos of Las Vegas, NV.
Visitation will be on Thursday, September 13th from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at St. Katherine Greek Orthodox Church, 7100 Airport Pulling Road, Naples with a funeral service following at 11:00. Interment will in Great Neck Woods Cemetery in Mashpee, MA on Wednesday, September 19th, time TBD. Donations in Ellie's memory may be made to St. Katherine's Greek Orthodox Church in Naples, FL.
