Erin Michelle Doughty, daughter of Dorothy DeMichele and James Doughty, Jr., passed away suddenly in her sleep, likely related to a heart condition, on Wednesday, September 26th, 2018. A Naples resident since 1980, Erin was born August 27, 1976.
She is survived by parents; aunts, Ann Genaro and Lynn Doughty; uncle, Michael Genaro; beloved cousins, Teresa and Michael Genaro and his family; longtime devoted friend, Hank Scholz; dear companion, John Byrd; and treasured dog, Dixie; plus extended family and many family and personal friends. She was predeceased by Leslie Doughty, Kevin Doughty, grandparents and other extended family members.
A loyal, true and helpful friend, her passions were animals, nature, being on Gulf waters, the arts, style and wit. She also cared about people and world issues.
Erin suffered trials due to a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) but persevered. She earned her B.A. from University of South Florida. Her desire to be a veterinarian was thwarted by brain trauma, but despite Erin's pain, her laughter could be heard from far away. Her sense of humor and cleverness helped her and those close to her endure her chronic depression and PTSD and allowed her to be a bright spirit whenever possible.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 16th, 1:00 PM at Grace Episcopal Church, 78 Main Street, Hastings-on-Hudson, NY 10706. A memorial service at The Arlington of Naples will be held, Thursday, Nov. 1, 2018 at 1:00pm. One wish of hers is that everyone vote, especially for sane and ethical leaders. If you wish to honor Erin's memory, please adopt a homeless pet and/or donate to a local pet rescue organization of your choice and/or The Mental Health Association of SWFL.
