Tribute

Frank Raymond Hondlik, age 89, beloved husband to Eileen Ann (nee McGinty) for 63 years; Loving father of Mary Jo, Kay Soltysiak (Johnny), Christopher (Jocelyn) and devoted grandfather to Ryan and Lauren.  Brother of the late Dorothy Maloney (Jack), Alberta Sever (Ray), and Jean Stanley (Duane).  Brother-in-law to Buddy and Ann McGinty and Noreen Kitko (Jim, deceased) and the late Marion Shuki (Bob), Theresa McGinty, and Kay Coyne (Jack).   A devout Catholic, he was a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews, and a loyal and cherished friend.  A graduate of Case Institute of Technology, he spent his career as a civil engineer in the steel industry, most notably as the President of Kilroy Steel in Cleveland, Ohio, who built many iconic buildings in Ohio including Blossom Music Center, Jacob’s Field, the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, the Great Lakes Science Center and many high rises in Cleveland and Columbus.   He was a long-time resident of Northeastern Ohio, and retired to Naples, Florida.   Frank was an avid golfer and was cofounder of the unsanctioned “Wrider Cup” golf tournament at Stonebridge Country Club in Naples, FL, where he led Team USA to many victories.  He loved golfing with his best buddy, Frank Burkitt and having happy hour with him.  Frank was an enthusiastic Cleveland sports fan, and a decades long hopeful Browns and Indians season ticket holder.  He especially enjoyed watching his much-loved Cleveland Indians.  He loved horseracing and betting the ponies, playing gin rummy, and most recently followed F1 racing.  Frank was a voracious reader of history, the world wars and fiction thrillers.  Frank enjoyed listening to classic jazz while playing dominoes and “Shut the Box” with his beloved wife, Eileen (who was most often victorious!)   Frank was a veteran and served his country in the US Army.  Funeral mass and memorial services will be held at a later date.  To leave a message or condolence for family, please visit www.fullernaples.com.
