Tribute

Grace Lorraine Johnson, age 91 was born in Roulette, PA. She was 18 years old when she married Harold H. Johnson whose career plans were to be an officer in the US Air Force and she started her life as a devoted wife and mother. She excelled in everything that she attempted and was pleased to share her knowledge with others. She made friends everywhere they were moved by the Air Force and was respected by all for her intelligence, sense of humor, and work as an advocate for humane treatment of animals. Her family grew to include 3 children, Wayne Elmer, Kathy Lynn, and David Allan. She became a Cub Scout den mother, Girl Scout leader, a volunteer for school activities, and participated in leadership capacity for PTA. Both her sons, Wayne and David achieved Eagle Scout and Kathy followed in footsteps of mother and became a nurse. Lorraine was so proud of all her children. After they grew and began families of their own, she returned to college and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked at Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem NC for years. Then 2 tragedies occurred which changed her life. First her oldest son Wayne was taken from the family at age 28 by a heart attack and within 6 months of that loss, her husband Harold suffered a major stroke and needed full time nursing care. Lorraine gave up nursing outside of the home for 12 years as she provided exceptional care of Harold at home. They moved to Florida where son David lived. Harold and Lorraine enjoyed many cruises together. After Harold passed, Lorraine resumed her nursing career and provided private duty care for residents in Naples. She retired from nursing at age 78. She loved to travel and continued cruising with children, friends, and independently. She experienced 58 cruises in her life. She kept a suitcase packed as she looked forward to the next one!

In April 2018, Lorraine lost her second son David. Her health began to deteriorate after this devastating loss and Grace Lorraine Johnson went on her final journey as she passed into eternal peace while sleeping.

Lorraine is survived by Daughter Kathy, Granddaughters Shawna Marie Velo, Grandson John Dale Gearhart, and Great grandchildren Alyssa Lynn, Abygail Grace, and Alfred David.

A service in loving remembrance will be held Saturday Sept 7 with viewing at 0930am and service beginning at 10:00am at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in Naples.

Lorraine will be joining husband Harold at Bushnell Cemetery on Sept 9th for final resting place.
Please offer donations to Humane Society in lieu of flowers to honor Lorraine as a champion for the weak and vulnerable.
