Harris Gross “Sandy” Mahan passed away on July 3, 2018 in Naples Florida. Sandy was born on October 3rd, 1931 to Cyrilla and Frank Mahan Sr. in Superior, Wisconsin. Sandy graduated from Central High School in Superior, attended UWS followed by UW Madison where he received his Electrical Engineering degree while involved with ROTC. Upon graduation Sandy went to work in Milwaukee for Cutler Hammer and on December 29, 1953 married the love of his life, Jane Wahlstrom. Sandy then went to serve in the Air Force at SAC headquarters in Omaha before being honorably discharged to return home to Superior and work for Benson Electric. Sandy earned his Professional Engineering License and worked for many local architectural firms. Sandy also designed many marine electrical projects with Fraser Shipyards, the last of which was the conversion of a straight decker to a cement carrier, the Alpena.
Sandy and his brother Frank Jr. purchased Benson Electric from Frank Sr. and had a successful business for many years while raising their families.
Sandy and Jane spent many years at Lake Nebagamon enjoying lake life with family and friends. They also spent many years traveling around the globe prior to landing in Naples, Florida in 1983. In 1984, they moved into the Savoy Condo, where they enjoyed many more years of entertaining their loved ones.
Sandy was active and enjoyed memberships in many organizations including the UWS Foundation Board, St. Albans Church, the Kitchi Gammi Club, the Lake Nebagamon Gun Club, Kiwanis, Elks, Masonic Lodge 236, York Rite, Commandry, the AAD Temple Pipes and Drums where he served as Drum Major, AAD Shrine, the Superior Shrine Club, the Jesters, the Onaway Club and Central Park Dance Club. Sandy was active in the National Electrical Contractors Association both locally and nationally. Sandy served the local chapter as President and Governor. Sandy served the contractors and local union on many committees.
Sandy was recognized as one of the Fellows of Electrical Contracting, a prestigious, nationally recognized group.
Sandy was preceded in death by his wife Jane, his mother and father, Cyrilla and Frank E. Sr. and his brother Frank E. Jr.
Sandy is survived by his daughter Cyrilla (Frank) Wagner of Naples, Florida and their children Annie (Joe) Rogers, Naples Florida and Katie Wagner, Naples Florida and son Blair (Anna) Mahan of Lake Nebagamon, Wisconsin and their children Alison (Matthew) Rubbelke, Maple Grove, Minnesota and Timothy, Colorado Springs, Colorado, and great grandchildren.
