John M. Monter, 74, of Naples, Florida, passed away peacefully in his home in the early morning hours of July 14, 2022. John spent his final days surrounded by family, music, prayer, memories and laughter.
John was a larger than life presence who moved through the world with focused determination, an inquisitive mind, a love of order and beauty and a dry, playful sense of humor. He shared generously of his time, talents and treasures with all who crossed his path.
A visionary leader with a sharp intellect and congenial demeanor, John enjoyed an exciting career in business that spanned four decades. He understood the most valuable asset of any organization was its team members and advanced his career by creating empowering environments and inspiring his teams towards constant improvement. John’s career culminated in the sale of Brand Services, Inc. to J.P. Morgan Partners in 2002, an achievement that was envisioned for years beforehand and also surpassed his wildest expectations.
John spent his retirement years golfing with lifelong friends, skiing the Wasatch Range, traveling the world with his wife, and sailing the waters of the Great Lakes and Atlantic Ocean on his much loved and meticulously designed sailboat Syrah.
John lived his life fully, completely, and with no regrets; he passed peacefully with the knowing of how blessed his life had been. The author of his own destiny, John once wrote the following philosophy of his approach to life: “To keep my sails full; to steer into smooth waters with the wind at my back; to experience clear, sharp sunrises and pristine, tranquil sunsets; and never look back.”
John is survived by his wife of 45 years, Cindy; son Jon (Bei Bei), daughter Chelsea (Mark), and granddaughter Leah. As per John’s wishes, he will be returned to the seas he loved to sail as he is memorialized in a living coral reef off the coast of Florida.
