James Paul Hamill III of Naples, Florida passed peacefully on February 24, 2023, surrounded by his wife, Pat and their three sons. Born in New York City on May 28 1944, as the only child of the late Col James P. Hamill II and Margaret Smith Hamill. Beloved husband of 56 years to Patrica Faas Hamill. Loving father to J.P Hamill, Kyle (Austin) Hamill, Brian (Kelly) Hamill and the late Kathleen Grace Hamill. Treasured grandfather, “Da”, to Carter Patrick Hamill, Molly Kate Hamill, Oliver Nicholas Hamill and Conor James Hamill. Jim graduated from Georgetown University, Class of ‘66. After serving as a First Lieutenant in Vietnam 1967-1968, he earned a Masters in Health Administration from Georgia State University. His 45 year career in healthcare started at Mercy Hospital in Davenport, Iowa and he continued to lead as CEO/President at Columbus-Cuneo-Cabrini Medical Center in Chicago, Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, MD, and finally as CEO/President of Meritus Health in Hagerstown, MD. Jim retired in 2011. In addition to being CEO, he served on multiple Boards, including Covenant Health System, Catholic Health Initiative and most recently, he had the privilege to sit on the Board of Trustees for Common Spirit Health. Jim served the community beyond Health Care becoming a Knight of Malta in 1983. All that were blessed to know Jim knew of his love for the water and his boat, the Irish Wake. “Captain” Jim and “First Mate” Pat spent many years on the Chesapeake Bay and delighted in the countless opportunities they had to entertain and welcome others to their favorite place. Annapolis and Annapolis Yacht Club became second homes and Jim loved welcoming friends and family, especially his grandchildren, aboard! Celebration of Life will begin on March 22, 2023 10:00 am at St. William Catholic Church, 601 Seagate Drive, Naples, FL 34108. Jim, a true “Man for Others”, will be eternally loved and remembered by all who knew him. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to www.myeloma.org/donation or a charity of your choice.
