James Murphy

James R. Murphy, 77, of Naples FL, passed away on Sunday, September 16, 2018, surrounded by his wife and family members.

Born August 1, 1941, Jim graduated from the College of the Holy Cross in 1963, and from George Washington University Law School in 1966. He loved to tell stories about his days as a Holy Cross Crusader, played on the Holy Cross baseball team and competed in the College World Series, and was a state batting champion at Cheverus High School in Maine. A longtime golf enthusiast, he won club championships at several country clubs on the east coast and designed and built golf clubs and equipment in his workshop.

In addition to sports, among Jim’s favorite pastimes were woodworking, making mixtapes of his favorite rock and roll songs and country tunes, cultivating his appreciation of fine wines, and sharing good times with his children and grandchildren. He loved animals and assisted his wife with her volunteer work in fostering and nurturing cats. As well, he enjoyed political debates, and occasionally contributed to op-ed columns in several print publications.

A business executive, Jim is survived by his wife Patricia R. Murphy, his daughter Jessica Murphy Greene and her husband, Matthew Greene, of Needham, MA, his son Daniel Murphy and his wife, Anastasia Tsiamita, of Westfield, NJ; his brother, Robert Murphy, of Martha’s Vineyard, MA; his four grandchildren: Christopher Green, Sean Greene, Danae Murphy, and Leandros Murphy.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Humane Society of Naples, and to For the Love of Cats (Marco Island).
