James E. Thorley

James Earl Thorley, 86 of Naples, Florida, formerly of Virginia Beach, Virginia and St Charles, Missouri died at home on Sunday, April 1, 2018 surrounded by his loved ones

Born in Canton, Ohio the son of son of Earl Thorley and Dolores Fort Bann.  James is a Veteran of the Vietnam War serving with the U. S. Navy. He achieved the rank of Lieutenant at the time of his honorable discharge. James spent his 22 year career with the Navy. Following the Navy, James began supervisory work in factory and private contracting with QED and Khaki

James attended St Francis Episcopal church Virginia Beach, and St Timothy’s Episcopal Church Creve Couer, Missouri and was a member of The Fraternal order of Eagles, The American Legion and The Masons. He enjoyed traveling, gardening and dancing

Wife of the late Lorraine A Thorley married for 62 years, James is survived by Daughters Darlene (Mike)  Stull, Deborah (Ken)  McKown  , Candace (Alan)  Rowland and Cindy (Dennis) Perkins. Eleven grandchildren: Lori Kleeburg, Nicole Bass, Michael Grover, Brad McKown, James Paul Marquette, Michelle Wise, Geoffrey Rowland, Keith Rowland, James Rowland, Daniel Perkins and Timothy Perkins. 15 great grandchildren. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his sisters Virginia, Janice and Idola and his daughter Dolores .

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, April 13, 2018 at 11:30 AM, in St Francis Episcopal Church, 509 Rosemont Rd., Virginia Beach, VA 23452. Interment will follow in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk, VA at 2:00 PM
