Janice Elizabeth Mueller

On December 31, 2020, Janice Elizabeth Mueller, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by family.

Jan was born on September 1st, 1947, in Los Angeles, CA, to parents Robert and Helen Hunt.  She had three siblings: Candice, Anita, and Robert.  The family moved regularly during Jan’s childhood in order to accommodate her father’s career in the service, including a notable residency in Hawaii, before finally settling in southern California.  In 1974, she graduated from the University of California-San Bernardino with a Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature; which led to a career teaching elementary school in Los Angeles County.

She was married to David P. Mueller on April 30, 1977. That same year, Jan and Dave relocated to Illinois with Jan’s son David Schnitzer; where their children Matthew and Michael were subsequently born and raised.  Although retired from teaching, Jan continued to work with children for the remainder of her career.  In 1995, the family relocated permanently to Naples, FL.Jan was the center of her family’s life and an active member of the community.  She loved her dogs unabashedly; almost as if they were her real children.  She worked for many years with the Gulf Coast Poodle Rescue Club, a local group that helps find homes for abandoned dogs.

Jan was 73 years old at the time of her death.  She is survived by her husband of 43 years; her children David, Matthew, and Michael; her grandchildren, Noah and Cateraina Schnitzer; Harrison Mueller; and Adam Mueller; as well as her sister, Anita, and other extended family members.

A memorial service will be held on January 23rd at the Fuller Funeral Home in Naples, FL, from 3:00-5:00 in the afternoon.  The service begins at 4:00.  It will be live-streamed as well for friends and family who cannot be in attendance.*      

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, mourners instead make contributions to either of her favorite charities, the Parkinson Association of Southwest Florida (parkinsonassociationswfl.org) or The Gulf Coast Poodle Club and Rescue (checks may be made out to Gulf Coast Poodle Club and Rescue and mailed to 729 St Andrews Blvd, Naples 34113.)
