Jiping Jiang passed away on May 18, 2019 in the company of his loving family and friends in Naples, FL. His loss was sudden and unexpected. He was born in Liyang, China to Ru Gen Jiang and Xiu Feng He on November 19, 1954. He was the 2nd of 6 siblings. He is predeceased by his father, Ru Gen, and survived by his mother, his older brother, his younger sister, his 3 younger brothers, his wife Min Chen, and his children, Karl and Yvonne.
After serving in the Chinese military for a brief period, Jiping completed his undergraduate studies in Nanjing, China. He then moved to Hangzhou, China for work, where he met his wife, Min. He then came to America in 1986 for his graduate studies at UC Riverside and stayed there until receiving his doctorate in Plant Pathology in 1991. In 1994, they moved to their first house in Davis, California, where they lived for 5 years while he worked as a Research Scientist for Petoseed. In 1999, he and his family moved to Naples, FL, where he stayed for 16 years until a recent move to Estero, FL. Jiping’s professional contributions to his craft have influenced the production of a substantial portion of the produce consumed in the US today, especially with tomatoes.
Jiping was a very vibrant and passionate individual, who loved to make others laugh with his particular sense of humor. He was, in both personal and professional aspects of his life, a great thinker and problem solver. He enjoyed writing articles for his blog, staying in shape, and watching the sunrise in the mornings - among many other things. He was steadfast in his faith and has reached peace in a better place with God. He shall always be remembered for his charming, endearing smile.
His family will be holding a public viewing the evening of the 26th of May, from 5pm to 7pm. There will be a memorial service the following morning at 11am on the 27th. They would like to thank everyone for their well-wishes and support in this difficult time, and all the friends and colleagues who have supported Jiping throughout his life.
He will be laid to rest in California.
