Joan Mary Anderson

Joan Mary Anderson, of Naples Fl. and Chatham, Ma. passed at 1:32 AM on Monday 2/15/21 at NCH North Hospital in Naples, Fl. Joan was a month shy of her 79 birthday.

Joan was born on March 21, 1942 in Darby PA. to Alice and Bill Jordan. The family moved to Metuchen NJ prior to high school. Joan attended Gwynedd Mercy college and then went to work in Muhlenberg Hospital in Plainfield, NJ as a medical secretary. 

Her courtship and marriage happened pretty quickly after graduation. She was introduced to her future husband Vic in May of 1962, right before graduation. They had three or four dates before he left for the USAF. They got engaged in early spring 1963 and were married on May 25th 1963.

Joan’s son Chris was born on May 21, 1964 and her daughter Bonnie was born on June 21, 1965. During the children’s secondary school years Joan was a librarian in Dwyer school in Rockaway NJ. She taught CCD in St Clement church for several years. She eventually became a dental secretary following the family move to Chatham Ma. in 1985. 

Her son Chris passed away in 2011. Her daughter Bonnie married John Roussel and eventually came to live in Phoenix Az. They have two children, Jamie and Jillian who Joan loved dearly. Our family share a summer home on the water in Chatham, Ma.

Joan suffered a brain bleed in 2005 and was in a coma for 4 weeks. She recovered completely and continued to enjoy life. In 2015 she was diagnosed with breast cancer and had been in treatment up until her death. Despite the cancer she lived a full and happy life for the past six years.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Victor Anderson; daughter Bonnie Roussel and son in law John Roussel of Scottsdale Az; cherished grandchildren Jamie and Jillian Roussel; Jamie’s wife Morgan; sisters Barbara Dunnigan of Naples; Patsy Kenny of Richmond VA; Carol Rively of Hilton Head SC and nephew Matt Anderson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, February 19, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 7775 Vanderbilt Beach Road, Naples.
