Tribute

Joanne Lynne Keith, of Naples passed away peacefully on May 31. She was born May 22, 1936 in Reading, Pa. and was predeceased by her parents R. Earl and Helen Yergey, her brother Ralph Yergey and an infant son David.

Joanne is survived by her husband of 64 years, James Keith; daughter Susan Blake of Somerville, NJ and Naples and son Douglas (Katie) of St. Augustine Beach; three grandchildren Brian Blake, Meghan (Shane) Arnold and Mackenzie Keith and one great grandson Remi Arnold. Joanne was affectionately known by her husband and friends as “Toots”, a nickname her father gave her about the time she was three years old.

Joanne graduated from Penn State University in 1958 where she majored in Home Economics and was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority for which she served as President her senior year. After graduation, she worked for several years at Mellon Bank in Pittsburgh before “retiring” to serve as a stay-at-home mom. After that time she kept busy doing volunteer work for Overlook Hospital and Central Presbyterian Church in Summit, NJ and later at a number of organizations in Dallas, TX and the Beaufort, SC area before moving with her husband to Naples in 2004.

Her favorite pastime was playing the piano and her ability to play most any tune a person requested led to many “sing alongs” around the piano especially during the Christmas Holidays and at gatherings of friends. She also loved to do challenging crossword puzzles, at least one a day and never in pencil, always in pen.

Services will be held on Saturday, June 11 at 10:30 AM at Naples United Church of Christ, 5200 Crayton Road, followed by a reception at Moorings Golf & Country Club, 2500 Crayton Road.

In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joanne’s name to the Wounded Warrior Project or the American Cancer Society.
