Tribute

John H. Allen, 79, of Naples, died March 6, 2018 at Avow Hospice from cancer. Born November 1, 1938 in Geneva, NY, he lived in New York State until he relocated to Florida in 1976.

John was married to his wife, Jackie, for over fifty years. In addition to his wife, John is survived by his brother, Roy Allen of SC; nephews, John Allen and Peter Allen; grandnephew, Andrew Allen; and several cousins.

A 1960 graduate of Norwich University, John received his B.S. Degree in Business Administration. Upon graduation from Norwich, he was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and was stationed at the Armor School in Fort Knox. He served as a tank unit commander with the first cavalry division in the Republic of Korea.

John joined the Lincoln Rochester Trust Company in January 1963 as a trust tax accountant. He subsequently held the position of trust officer and relocated to Naples where he was trust officer and Vice President of Citizens and Southern Trust Company. He changed careers in 1986 when he joined the law firm of Bond, Shoeneck and King, P.A. as a probate accountant. He retired in 2003.

John enjoyed regular golfing with his buddies at local courses, NASCAR auto racing, car rallying and vintage cars trucks and trains; John was a “collector.” He was a fan of the New York Yankees and the New York Giants. John will be remembered as an original patron and supporter of the English Pub on Linwood Avenue. He was a Rotarian for over forty years; a member, past officer and director of Gulf Shore Rotary Club; a Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow; a member of American Legion Post 135 in Naples and a member of Naples Elks Lodge 1249. His favorite organization was the Humane Society Naples where he walked dogs and participated in many events benefitting dogs and cats.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, April 9th, from 5-7PM at Fuller Funeral Home, 4735 Tamiami Trail East. Contributions in John’s memory may be made to Humane Society Naples, the American Heart Association or the charity of one’s choice.
