“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Mathew 11:28-30
Johnny Rogers, affectionately known as “Pops”, was born in Albany, GA on April 13, 1948, was the beloved son of the late Earnest Martin and lovely mother, Mary Martin. On Tuesday, May 3, 2022, Pops peacefully departed this life and was blessed with his wings returning to his heavenly home to be in the presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Pops who met and married our mother, Pauline Rogers preceded him in death. He was a great father and friend to many. He was known to be very loving and giving and was committed to his family, making sure they knew that they always had his love and support.
Pops was preceded in death by his loving wife, Pauline Rogers and his father, Earnest Martin. He leaves to cherish fond memories and a lasting legacy of love his mother Mary Martin; Children: Rodney Lashay Rogers, Diane Thomas, Barbara Denson (Anthony Denson), Willie Thomas (LaVerne Thomas) (Naples, FL) Lois Palmares (Tampa, FL), and Henry T. Miller (Chey Miller) (Tampa, FL); his brothers, Elijah Martin and Charles Martin and sisters, Everlene Martin (Albany, GA) and Paulette Garcia (Augusta, GA); 18 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and friends including devoted friends, Richard Johnson and Reginald Gavin.
In 1975, Pops joined in Christian fellowship with Macedonia Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Warren Adkins where he remained until his untimely death. Pops became a member of International Masons & Eastern Star under Charles A. Williams – No. 036, on September 27, 1989, where he earned the Degree as “Royal Arch” Roll No. 021.
Pops was a resident of Naples, FL for the past 52 years and was employed at Moorings Presbyterian Church for forty-five (45) years, as a Custodian. However, you couldn’t tell him he wasn’t a Wedding Planner, at least that’s the story he would tell many. He would often say that on Saturdays he needs to go to the Church to get ready for the weddings. The representatives at Moorings said he was more than a Custodian; he was more like family and that he will be greatly missed.
Pops loved his family, and we will all miss him dearly. Our family will especially miss one of his favorite sayings whenever he would talk to any of his children and family, “Well….”
