Joseph C. Fatony, 71, of Naples, FL, formerly of Franklin Lakes, NJ, passed away September 2, 2018. Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Pamela, his parents, Joseph and Celeste Fatony, his sister, Margaret Del Gatto and her husband, Vincent. He is survived by his daughters, Catherine Sommerfeld and husband, Andrew, Elizabeth Reyes and husband, Francis, their mother, Judith Fatony-Meagher, and his stepsons, Jeffrey Schvey and wife, Donna, and Gregory Schvey. He is also survived by his sister, JoAnn Sgarlata and husband, Letterio, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, Joe attended St. Francis Prep before entering the Army National Guard. He earned his BA and MBA from Long Island University. Throughout his career, which spanned over 40 years, he held executive positions in the banking and investment industries including Vice President at the Bank of New York, where he worked for over 20 years. He was Chairman of the Board and founder of SRF Builders Capital Corp., Managing Director and CFO at AFC Realty Capital Corp, and Managing Director at PMZ Realty Capital.
Joe was also an Adjunct Professor of Finance and Management at Long Island University for 34 years. At Long Island University, he served as a member of the Advisory Board to the Dean of the School of Business and Information Systems and as a member of the Board of Directors for the Graduate School.
He served on the Advisory Board of Lakeland Bank and the Board of Directors of Rovion Corp., GenOil Corp., Lifschultz Industries, Energetic Genomics Corp. and Howington Industries and was a former trustee of the American Institute for Economic Research. He was a member of the Accountants Forum, the National Real Estate Club, Garden State Credit Association, the Williams Club, and the International Council of Shopping Centers.
After retirement, Joe moved to Naples, FL, where he was President of the Eagle Creek Community Association. An active member of the Knights of Columbus since 1986, he transferred to the San Marco Council in 2012, where he served in the roles of Grand Knight, Faithful Navigator, and Trustee.
A Funeral Mass celebrating Joe’s life will be held on Saturday, October 13th at 10am at the Church of the Most Blessed Sacrament, 787 Franklin Lake Road, Franklin Lakes, NJ. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 27th at 10:30am at San Marco Catholic Church, 851 San Marco Road, Marco Island, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Knights of Columbus Council 6344 Scholarship Fund (Memo line: Joe Fatony), P.O. Box 417, Marco Island, FL 34146.
