Joe was born in Durand, Michigan to Joseph R. and Mary Y. Krepel. He was a proud graduate of Durand Area High School and Central Michigan University where he was awarded a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music Education. His love of music became his passion. For more than 30 years he participated in Drum Corps International (DCI). Starting as a horn line instructor with the 27th Lancers in Revere, Massachusetts, his mastery and knowledge of drill design and performance was recognized by his peers. He adjudicated DCI competitions around the United States.
Joe’s love of the beauty and pageantry of the Corps band competitions motivated him to start his own business and write drill for competitive high school bands around the United States. After a successful competitive season performing Joe’s drill, the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Marching Band was invited to lead the Rose Bowl parade in 1999. He was invited to travel to Japan in 1996, 1997 and again in 2000 to conduct seminars on adjudicating competitive bands.
He is survived by his loving wife, Beverly; son, Joseph; and his sisters, Bernadine and Linda. In addition to his parents, Joe was predeceased by his sister, LuAnn Smith.
