Joseph William Portner died on June 2, 2022 after a brief illness. He was born in Washington, DC on June 20, 1950 to Harry and Edith Portner. He is survived by his spouse, Linda Goldfield; sister, Sharon Savage; brother, David Portner and sister-in law Karen; two nieces and nephews and many loving friends. He also leaves behind his loving dog, Leyla.
Joe attended the University Miami and was a business owner for over fifty years. For close to thirty years he and his brother operated and owned, Portner Brothers Refinishing in the Washington, DC area which was named by Washingtonian Magazine “the best strippers this side of 14th Street”. In 1999, Joe opened JWP in Naples, Florida.
A talented artisan and craftsman, Joe had a keen appreciation of aesthetics. He collected antiques and art. In addition, his passions included exploring foreign countries, fine dining and designer clothing. When not working or spending time with friends he could be found watching his favorite childhood western series.
Although a longtime resident of Naples, Joe’s heart always remained in Washington, DC. His greatest joy was spending time with his lifelong friend there.
A celebration of his life will be held in Washington, DC. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in to the Jewish Federation of Greater Naples or the charity of your choice.
