Martin Alan Cohn, M.D. passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 21, 2021. Formerly of Miami Beach, FL, he had been a Naples resident since 1989. He was born June 19, 1944 in Chicago, IL, the son of Joseph and Lillian (née Miles) Cohn.

Dr. Cohn is remembered with much love. He was born in Chicago, IL in 1944 where he spent his early childhood. He continued to Atlanta, GA and then Miami, FL where he attended Miami Beach High School and afterwards University of Miami for both undergraduate and medical school at which time, he met and married Karen, his wife of 55 years. He was a physician in the United States Air Force, serving from 1973-1975, and then continued his career as a pulmonologist at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Miami Beach. There, he was one of the leading researchers for sleep apnea, where he helped pioneer the use of the CPAP machine in its treatment and served as the President of the Southern Sleep Society for two years. He is the author of the explanation of Sleep Apnea for the World Book Encyclopedia. He served as the President of the Lung Association of Dade County. He moved to Naples in 1989, where he opened the Sleep Center of Southwest Florida and served the local community for over 33 years. Marty had a great curiosity and excitement for life. He enjoyed traveling, juggling, magic, golf, tennis, pickleball, jai-alai, ham radio, and a good espresso crema, but he most enjoyed music and playing the clarinet. He was the Treasurer of the Music Foundation of Greater Naples and a member of the Naples Klezmer Revival Band. He loved to pour his soul into his music while participating in the Soulful Shabbat at Temple Shalom.

Dr. Cohn is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Karen (née Nemeroff) Cohn; his beloved children, Robyn (Christopher) Fleming of Wellington, FL and Mark (Jill) Cohn of Atlanta, GA; his sister, Ethilyn (Arthur) Slavin of Atlanta, GA; and four cherished grandsons, Sam Fleming, Jake Fleming, Miles Cohn and Simon Cohn.

A funeral service will be held Friday, November 26, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Temple Shalom, 4630 Pine Ridge Road, Naples. Burial will follow at Palm Royale Cemetery, 6780 Vanderbilt Beach Road, Naples
