Matthew Newton Cox

Matthew Newton Cox, 18 , of Naples, FL passed away February 9, 2021. He was born on April 19, 2002 in Riverdale, GA, the son of Ken and Lesa Cox. He attended Collier County schools and graduated from Barron Collier High School in 2020.

Matthew, a constant ray of sunshine from his favorite spot on the lanai, full of love and personality. While autistic and non-verbal,  that never allowed his energy to go unfelt, unnoticed or unheard. Just as Matthew could understand Spanish, all who loved him understood his side-eye, his forehead kisses, his smile, his love for the beach. We understood how complex and powerful Matt truly was, just as we know his powerful presence will remain with us forever. For every day Matthew spent on earth without a voice is a day in heaven we know he is sharing all of his wisdom and whispering memories in our hearts and ears from above. Matthew will be missed tremendously, but we know his memory and legacy will forever live on. He is now free of pain and any ailments he could not fully articulate to any of us. Our sweet Matthew may now rest in true peace. 

To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. While Matthews sudden passing will never truly make sense to us, we find solace in knowing he is now resting in the arms of the Lord until we can meet him once more. 

Matthew is survived by his parents Ken and Lesa Cox; his brother Jonathan Cox  and his sisters Chadni Cox, Sameera Cox, Sydonie David and Trecinia Wiggins.  He is also survived by his niece Ava Ray and grandparents, several aunts, uncles, brother-in-law and cousins.
