Melva Diaza Riano. 85, passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 11th, 2017 after a more than two-year battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). She was born on May, 27, 1932 in Cali, Colombia, working 30 years as a surgical nurse. She married Libardo Riano on October 6th, 1962 and raised 3 children in Cali. She retired in 1982 and dedicated her remaining time to caring for her grandchildren, 1 in Colombia, the other 3 in the U.S. She became a U.S. citizen on September 24th, 2010. Melva was a gentle, selfless grandmother whose focus was always on the happiness of others, never on herself. She was non-complicated and humble, always smiling with kind words, most always in Spanish. Through her quiet, steady manner, she taught all that love and personal relationships were more important than material possessions. Melva is survived by her daughter Zeineff (Dave Horton) and grandson Kody of Naples, Fl., her daughter Maritza (Tim Parrott) and grandsons Michael and Erik of Ann Arbor, MI, and Libardo Riano and granddaughter Isabella of Bogata, Colombia. She was preceded in death by her husband Libardo on April 19, 2002. . Calling hours will be Monday, October 16th from 10am – 12pm at Fuller Funeral Home, 1625 Pine Ridge Rd, Naples, FL 34109. Fuller will host a memorial service at noon followed by a burial at Palm Royale Cemetery Mausoleum at 1:30pm.
