Merlin Dean Angstrom, 86, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 16, 2015. Merlin was born March 5, 1929 in Stratford, IA to Leonard and Ruth Angstrom.
After graduating from Stratford High School he was active in farming the century farm in Iowa until he enlisted in the Iowa Air National Guard in 1950 in the Korean conflict. He was activated into the United States Air Force in 1951.
In 1953, Merlin was united in marriage to Roberta “Bobbie” Thiede, and this August would mark their 62nd wedding anniversary. Together they raised four children.
Merlin remained active in the family farming operation and was named Hamilton County Farmer of the Year. In 1964, he joined Triple “F” Feeds Company in Des Moines, IA as sales manager for Mix-Mill operation. Subsequently, he founded Vitamor, Inc., a natural livestock nutrition company in Johnston, IA.
In 1991, Merlin and Bobbie moved to Naples, FL where he continued in agricultural business development. Merlin was actively involved in ministry leadership in churches he attended in Stratford and Johnston, IA, and Naples, FL. He was currently serving as an elder at Crossroads Community Church in Naples, FL. His passion was serving the Lord and he was most recently active in the New Canaan Society, Young Life, and Youth with a Mission.
Merlin loved life. This was evidenced by his strong faith, devotion to his wife and family, and his generosity to all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Bobbie Angstrom of Naples, FL and his four children: Doug (Dianne) Angstrom of Austin, TX; Greg (Brenda) Angstrom of Cuenca, Ecuador; Brenda (Bob) Peitzman of Johnston, IA; and Sharla (Bill) Potter of Naples, FL.
His legacy includes 10 grandchildren; Kirsten Ramos, Kelly Fieleke, Aaron Angstrom, Jodi Corbin, Jennifer Fox, Tom Potter, Jenna Peitzman, Ryan Potter, Ashley Johnson, John Peitzman, and 20 great-grandchildren.
