Nicolas Roselio “Leo” Herrera passed away on Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at Physicians Regional Medical Center. Leo was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Miriam. He was born to Luis and Ramona Herrera in Camaguey, Cuba on February 3, 1936.
Leo escaped from Cuba in 1965, searching for a better life for his wife and young son. His boat ended up in Mexico, where he worked for a while earning money to be able to send for his family. They came to Naples and stayed with friends for a short while. Leo worked hard, at times working three jobs at once, and eventually started Leo’s Sod, a successful sod installation company. He sold the company and retired in 1998.
Leo was a long time Elks member. He loved classic cars and owned many over the years. He also enjoyed animals, having owned horses, chickens, and goats on his small farm. One of his favorite activities was playing dominoes with his friends and family while enjoying a scotch and cigar.
Leo is survived by his dedicated, loving sons, Jesus (Michelle) and Jorge; grandchildren Nicholas (Diana) Herrera, Jessica (David) Estilette, Anthony Herrera, Alexander Jorge “AJ” Herrera, and several great grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by cherished grandchildren Ethan and Lilianna Herrera.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, July 19 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Fuller Funeral Home. Entombment will follow on Tuesday, July 20 at 9:00 a.m. at Palm Royale Cemetery located at 6780 Vanderbilt Beach Road.
