Paul Martin Eckert, 92, passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at his home in Naples, Florida. Paul was born March 3, 1926 to Paul (William) and Alma (Zimmerman) Eckert in Baltimore, Maryland, the oldest of 3 children. He graduated from McDonogh School in 1944.
Paul served in the United States Navy and was stationed in Bainbridge, Maryland. He then went on to graduate from the University of Maryland in 1951. He married his beautiful bride, who also happened to be his next-door neighbor, Eugenia (Jean) Ruth Reynolds in 1952 in Baltimore, Maryland.
Paul began a long career as a Sales Executive within the manufacturing industry working for Vibro Manufacturing Co. and M.S. Willett Inc. He was a member of his alma mater’s Terrapin Club and a very active member of the Penn State Nittany Lion Club. Penn State football meant a great deal to Paul as he and Jean were season ticket holders for many years. He had a great love for the game of golf and actively played up until his passing. He won the prestigious Baltimore Country Club Governor’s Cup Tournament in 1974 where he was a lifelong member. Paul also enjoyed swimming, reading the Wall Street Journal and taking cruises throughout the Caribbean islands with his family.
Paul is survived by his wife, Jean; son, Paul William Eckert II; daughter, Barbara (Eckert) Baldridge; grandchildren, Jeffrey and Jennifer Baldridge, and Allison and Leigh Eckert. Paul was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert H. Eckert and sister, Joan A. Eckert.
A memorial service will be held for immediate family at Woodlawn Cemetery in Baltimore, Maryland where Paul will be laid to rest. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Penn State University Libraries.
