Petrina Octavia (Arnason) Cordes

Petrina Octavia Cordes (Arnason), age 99, passed away peacefully in Naples, Florida on Friday, June 3, 2022. She was born in Lundar, Manitoba, Canada on October 9, 1922, one of 11 children to the late Jon and Olaf Arnason. She grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and became a US resident in 1954, residing in Richfield, Minnesota until the last five months of her life.

Petrina was a free spirit, forever youthful and joyous, took care to know the details of everyone’s life, and was a great wife, mother, grandmother, auntie and friend. She was a marvelous storyteller, artist, writer and poet, and proud of her Icelandic heritage. She was kind, compassionate, witty, wise, and a true light and gift to those who knew her.

She is survived by daughter Valerie (Gary), son Gary, grandson Ryan (Angie), great-grandsons, Ryker and Parker, and many other devoted family members, friends and former colleagues.

There will be a memorial celebration held in Minneapolis on October 9, 2022, on what would have been her 100th birthday. Details will be sent as it gets closer to the date.

In lieu of flowers, Petrina would have preferred a donation in her honor. One option is an education trust fund she started for her great grandsons [Venmo: @OlsonCollegeFund]. Another option she supported is Children’s Surgery International.
