Tribute

Robert B. Lovell of Naples, FL passed away suddenly on March 22, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Bob was born on September 11, 1941, in Spokane, Washington to Lloyd and Laura Lovell.  He grew up and enjoyed many years of fishing and hunting in the wild Northwest along with his parents and brother, Don.

Bob received his B.A. from Eastern Washington University and started graduate school to become an international economics teacher. The courses were easy, so Bob worked part time as a teaching assistant, and part time at night at Safeway grocery for some extra money. One night after work, Bob was suddenly approached in the grocery store parking lot by a stranger named Jim Howe.  Jim knew Bob was married with two small children (Ganin and Allison) and wanted to make an appointment to discuss his need for life insurance!  When Bob missed the appointment, Jim continued to wait in the grocery store parking lot, until Bob finally met with him! Bob believed in the concept, and purchased his first life insurance contract, which lead to his career change.

Bob started selling with a small carrier in Seattle.  He later produced with KY Central Life in Lexington KY., while working his way up to a corporate job as a Regional Sales Director, supervising general agencies from the Pacific Northwest, in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Montana.  In 1979, while attending a corporate meeting, Bob met Janet Prather, a Supervisor in the Customer Service Dept., at KY Central Life.  Bob and Janet were married on October 24, 1980, in Coeur D’Alene, Idaho.  Bob, Janet, and Laura moved to Lexington, KY in 1987, before moving to Naples, FL in June 1995.

Bob met with his long-time business associate and friend, Mitch Mann, to discuss setting up a new business, Database Financial Services Inc. in Naples, FL.  Shortly thereafter, The Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office asked if D.F.S. could provide retirement educational information to their employees on the FL State Pension Plan and available options to members.  Bob and Mitch started the Educational Seminars for members specifically customized for each entity, locally and throughout the state of Florida.  Bob enjoyed working with Law Enforcement, Firefighters, Paramedics, EMT’s and Administration personnel for the past 27 years, locally and throughout the state of Florida.  Bob’s goal when meeting with clients was to make sure they first understood how their retirement options worked and determine the option best for their situation.  Bob genuinely cared about all his clients and wanted them to achieve their retirement goals, with many becoming friends.  His motto: “You get what you inspect, not what you expect!” Bob was a member of some of the state’s largest public safety organizations such as, FL Sheriff’s Association, Florida Professional Firefighters Association, and the FL Council on Crime & Delinquency.  Bob was honored to be a Kentucky Colonel and a sustaining Top of The Table MDRT member for many years.

Bob is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 42 years, Janet Lovell: Brother, Don Lovell (Eileen) Spokane, WA.  Daughters: Ganin Lovell, Seattle, WA, Allison Lovell Damoth (Mike) Bellingham, WA and Laura Lovell, Naples, FL: Grandchildren: Jesse, Sofie, Sadie, James, Ella, and Aiden.  Great Grandchildren: Lilliana and Mariella
