Ruth Z. Decozio 92, wife of the late John Decozio, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2024 in Naples, FL. She was born on December 1, 1931 in Stafford Springs, CT where she resided until graduating from High School in 1950. Her family then moved to Palmer, MA where she was employed by NE Insurance Company. It was during this time that she met her future husband John and married on October 1, 1955. After marrying, they moved to East Hartford, CT where they lived for 40 years and raised 3 daughters.
Ruth was employed for 25 years as an Administrative Assistant for the East Hartford Board of Education until retirement in 1995. She was President of her union for many years, PTA President, Girl Scout leader and taught religious education at St. Rose Church where she was very active with many lay ministry functions.
After retirement, she and John moved to Naples, FL where they enjoyed traveling, ballroom dancing, bowling and were members of the Italian American Club. After 2 years in Naples, she became a Eucharistic Minister at St. William Church and was active in the church community. Ruth was a spiritual woman whose life was always centered on Catholicism. To further strengthen her faith, she took part in a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. She always said, “God is my strength and I cannot live without him. “
Ruth is survived by three daughters, Marita Decozio-Wiley of Danielson, CT; Janice (Kenneth) Sayles of East Granby, CT; and Mary (James) Davis of Cromwell, CT. She adored her five grandchildren, Michael (Stacia) Davis of Cromwell, CT; Ashley (Ryan) Ey of Middletown, CT; Kenneth, Katelyn and Cameron Sayles all from Boston, MA; and her three great grandchildren, Adriana Davis, Michael Davis and Gianna Ey. She also leaves several nieces and nephews.
Ruth developed many relationships with dear friends at the Fairways at Emerald Green and within the St. William Church Community. She will be most remembered for her leadership, dedication and compassion towards others.
The family would like to give special thanks to the Avow Hospice Caregivers and the many Eucharistic Ministers who visited and prayed with her up until her final days.
