Tribute

Stuart Egerton, II, former owner and chief executive officer of the Baltimore manufacturing firm Pritchard Brown passed away on November 6, 2022, following a long courageous battle with heart disease. Stuart was 84 years old and a Naples, FL resident well known for his kindness, warmth and engaging personality.

As the third child of McKenny White Egerton and Carolyn Griswold Egerton, Stuart grew up in the Ruxton area of Baltimore County, MD. He often shared fond memories of his years attending Calvert School and Gilman School in Baltimore. Following high school, Stuart studied at Cornell University and earned his bachelor’s degree from Hampden-Sydney College.

Stuart touched many lives through his business endeavors in Baltimore manufacturing. During his time as CEO, Pritchard Brown became one of the nation’s leading manufacturers of standby generator enclosures and portable laboratories, with a reputation for impeccable quality and customer service. Stuart mentored his employees through a kind but savvy professional demeanor, had a wonderful sense of humor that permeated his work, and keen insight that enabled him to pick the right people to help him grow the business. As a testament to Stuart’s legacy, Pritchard Brown remains a thriving Baltimore manufacturer. Employees who were hired during his tenure represent 10 percent of the company’s current staff, twenty-five years later.

Stuart retired in 1997 and moved to Port Royal, FL with his wife, Eleanor. While in Florida, Stuart’s engagement with his community was as impactful as it was meaningful to those around him. He was both a founder and board member of the Naples Community Church, member of the Port Royal Property Owners Association and loyal supporter of Habitat for Humanity. As a life-long athlete and avid golfer, Stuart also served on the board of the Hole-in-the-Wall Golf Club in Naples.

Preceding Stuart in death were his parents and two brothers, McKenny and Benjamin.

Stuart is survived by his wife Eleanor Harvey Egerton; daughter Ann Egerton of Baltimore; son Stuart Egerton, III, of Baltimore; stepdaughter Laura Barringer of Chadds Ford, PA; stepson Bill Grotz of Commerce, MI; sister Carolyn Murphy of Cockeysville, MD; seven grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

Stuart’s family will host a memorial service to honor him at 2 p.m., Saturday, December 10, 2022 at the Naples Community Church at 849 7th Avenue South. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Neighborhood Health Clinic in Naples or the Naples Community Church.
