Our Beauty Queen

Syble Wonnett Doss McCollum

June 26th, 1942 ~ May 28th, 2022

Our Dear Momma, Syble Wonnett McCollum, sadly passed away on Saturday, May 28th, 2022 at the age of 79 yrs old. She was a wonderful wife and mother, grandmother, great grandmother, as well as a loving sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin and friend. We will miss her beyond measure, and yet we find comfort in knowing that she knew Jesus Christ as her Lord and Saviour. This hope and faith, gives us comfort. We know that she is happy and in heaven, with those loved ones who have passed before her. We know she is holding her baby Donna Denise who passed away as an infant, only 2 weeks old in July 1964. She was also preceded in death by her mother, Pearl McGatha Brigance and her father, Melvin John Doss, Sr.

Syble is survived by her husband Wayne McCollum. They were married for 64 yrs. her son, David McCollum (Heather), daughter, Debra Brett (Joe) and daughter, Sonya Heiser. She has 6 grandchildren, Dara, Adam, Sara, Audra, Staisha, Trey, and 4 step grandchildren, Sabrina, Nick, Jacob and Chloe, 14 Great grandchildren, Tyler, Skyler, Gavin, Landon, Casey Jane, Shayla, Gage, Kasen, Jaeden, Wyatt, Sariah, Daniel, Starley, Olivia, with 2 more sweet great grand-babies expected this year. She also leaves behind her brothers Melvin Doss, Jr. and Jack Wayne Doss, numerous nieces, nephews, sister’s in laws and brother’s in law.

She was born in Jacksonville, Alabama on Friday, June 26th, 1942 to Pearl Brigance and Melvin John Doss, Sr. She was a blonde haired, blue eyed beauty from the start. She, being the oldest child grew up helping her momma (Pearlie) while Pearlie was working at the cotton mill and her daddy Melvin Doss was in the US Military. She learned at a very early age that hard work and commitment to family was in her blood.

She met Gerald Wayne McCollum in Jacksonville, Alabama. They both fell in love and were married on March 19th, 1958. Ten months later on January 15th, 1959 they welcomed their first child David Wayne McCollum, then Debra Wonnett McCollum on Sept. 4 1960. They tragically lost their 3rd child Donna Denise, born in July 1964. They were blessed once again with their youngest child Sonya Geraline McCollum on Sept. 1, 1966.

Syble and Wayne moved their family permanently to Naples around 1968, after visiting Papa and Mama McCollum every summer since the late 1950’s. While Wayne was working construction, Syble started her own business in the early 70’s, cleaning homes in Naples.

She enjoyed going to the beauty salon every week to get her hair done and to chat with the ladies. Usually on a Friday afternoon. Since Friday night she and Wayne would go dancing, usually at the Moose Lodge. They loved to dance and had won several dancing contests locally.

Because she would go to the salon often... in 1987 she decided to buy and run a salon of her own. Appropriately called, “Beauty in the Moorings”, right across from Coastland Center on 41. She was not a hairdresser, but a great boss and business owner.

She was loved so much and it was a blessing to have her in our lives. We love her so much and will miss her, until we meet again.

We all love you forever and always!
