Theresa (Malone) Riley, Naples, Florida, formerly of Marion, IA, died peacefully in her sleep on May 25, 2022. Theresa was born on July 11, 1930 on a farm near Ottumwa, IA. Theresa attended Ottumwa Heights College and worked as an elementary school teacher in Hopkinton, IA, before she married J. Patrick Riley on June 11, 1955 in Ottumwa, IA.
Theresa and Pat raised their family in Iowa City, Cedar Rapids and Marion Iowa. Theresa returned to school and graduated from the University of Iowa in 1978 with a BA in Education. Theresa then worked as a middle school science teacher at St. Joseph’s School in Marion, IA. Theresa and Pat moved to Naples, Florida when they retired in 1991, where she continued to volunteer in literacy programs for children and adults.
Theresa will be greatly missed by her four children, Rev. Leo Riley, Port Charlotte, FL, Ann (John) Nesbit, Des Moines, IA, Michael (Marlene), New York, NY and Chris (Mary), Edina, MN, eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Theresa is preceded in death by her husband Pat, her parents Mike and Mary, and her siblings. A Memorial Mass is scheduled for Monday, June 6, at 10:00 a.m. at her parish, St. William Catholic Church, Naples, Florida, with the internment following at Moorings Park.
