Tribute

On Thursday, September 19th, 2019, Thomas J. Flynn, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. Thomas was born on February 20th, 1940 in Fitchburg, MA, son of the late James & Helen (Lendo) Flynn. He has been a resident of Naples, FL since 2002, coming from Marlborough, MA.
Thomas graduated from St. Bernard’s High School in 1957 and from Fitchburg State College in 1962, as an Administration major. He taught at the Bromfield School in Harvard from 1967 to 2000. On July 1st, 1967, Thomas married Mary-Ethel Chase. They raised 2 sons, Brian and Kevin, as well as one daughter, Mary-Anne.
Thomas was a terrific scholastic athlete and is a member of both the St. Bernard’s High School Athletic Hall of Fame and the Fitchburg State University Athletic Hall of Fame. During his tenure at the Bromfield School, Thomas served as baseball coach, basketball coach, and Athletic Director, positively impacting the lives of many student athletes. He was known for his sharp wit, love of family, and passion for sports, especially the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents and brother Gerald. He is survived by his wife Mary-Ethel, his three children, Brian (Tracey), Kevin (Kelly), and Mary-Anne; four grandchildren, Kristen, Sean, Brandon and Tyler; his brothers Butch and Paul, sisters Diane and Kathleen; and his extended family of nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on October 5th, 2019 at St. Bernard Parish at St. Camillus de Lellis Church on Mechanic St. Fitchburg, MA at 11 o’clock a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Massachusetts Lions Eye Research Fund.
