Vassyl Bakhtin, 55, of Naples, Florida, passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2020. A proud Hutsul Ukrainian, he made Naples his home 25 years ago. He was born September 8, 1964 in Kosiv, Ukraine, the son of Vassyl and Paulina (née Ferkaluk) Bakhtin.
Mr. Bakhtin is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Mariya (née Druchkiv) Bakhtina; his beloved daughter, Christina Bachtina; and his cousin, Michael (Miko) Dunne, who he saw like brother.
Vassyl "Tato" loved living in Naples, he came to America for a better life and was able to build a good home here for his family. He gave the shirt off his back for anyone who needed it and loved Mariya "Mashona" and Christina "Chado" more than life itself. He sacrificed daily for their happiness and well-being, always putting his family before himself. He was incredibly funny, had the best memory, kept close lifelong friendships, and treated his pets like gold. He loved to sing songs, the beach, driving, spending time at home, and could fix anything. He met everyone with respect and humor and those who had the pleasure of knowing him all speak to his character and contagious happiness. The family pets brought him endless joy and he loved dancing with Murca "Muni" and Pippa "Pesika". He had nicknames for everyone and we always want to remember what he lovingly called us. Although he left this earth far from his birthplace, he left a mark on family and friends there and will be greatly missed by all – Slava Ukraini!
His favorite toast was to freedom, and we feel in our hearts that he is now truly free from pain. He was taken too young, but his life mattered. He will be cherished forever.
Visitation for family and friends will take place Wednesday, August 12, 2020 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Fuller Funeral Home, 1625 Pine Ridge Road, Naples. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. at St. William Catholic Church, 601 Seagate Drive, Naples.
